St. Michael’s College is a friendly, diverse and vibrant place with contemporary academic programs, state-of-the-art facilities and a range of extracurricular activities, learning resources and wellness supports.

We are founded—and grounded—in hope.

St. Michael’s was established in 1852 by the Congregation of St. Basil and expanded through the support of the Sisters of St. Joseph and the Loretto Sisters to educate the children of immigrants who came to Canada in search of a better life.

Today, St. Michael’s is home to 5,000 students studying everything from astronomy to zoology. As one of seven undergraduate colleges within U of T, students benefit from one of the world’s top research universities, extensive academic and extracurricular opportunities, and the close-knit community at their college.

At the undergraduate level, St. Mike’s hosts four prestigious programs: Book & Media Studies, Celtic Studies, Christianity & Culture and Medieval Studies. These are linked with the university’s first-year seminars: the Gilson Seminar in Faith and Ideas, the Boyle Seminar in Scripts and Stories, and the McLuhan Seminar in Creativity and Technology.

There’s a wealth of extracurricular opportunities to meet new people and explore your interests. Resources like our wellness counsellor can help you navigate the challenges of university life.

Mission

Our mission is to give students the opportunity to challenge and develop themselves by offering a welcoming, creative and enquiring intellectual community. We support the whole student—inside and outside the classroom.

Campus

Our beautiful downtown campus borders Queen’s Park and includes an elegant quad and iconic rock gardens. It’s home to St. Basil’s Church and the adjacent Odette Hall, the oldest building at the University of Toronto. Among our many resources is the John M. Kelly Library, one of the busiest in the U of T system. St. Michael’s also houses the Canadian Catholic Bioethics Institute and the Pontifical Institute of Medieval Studies.
