Getting ready

A residence room is guaranteed for all new, full-time students entering their first year of university. Our residences—often historic buildings surrounded by gardens—are located on the downtown (St. George) campus. Residence offers are sent out from mid-June to August.

U of T uses an online platform called ACORN to choose courses and plan your schedule. Before enrolling, spend some time planning your courses. Check whether your courses are in person, hybrid, online synchronous or online asynchronous. Create a weekly schedule and understand the prerequisites and enrolment indicators (i.e., rules about who can enroll and who is prioritized for a particular class).

Your tuition depends on your program, year of study and course load. Registration fees include: 

• Academic fees – cost of your program 
• Incidental fees – campus services, student groups 
• Ancillary fees – course-specific fees for equipment, field trips or publications 

Fall/winter tuition fees are usually posted in mid-July; summer fees are usually posted in mid-April. 

How to pay your fees

You can pay your tuition at your bank, online, by phone or by credit card. Payments are accepted only for fees billed on your ACORN invoice using these options. 

Once you’ve enrolled, pay your fees promptly. You must pay at least the minimum first installment or officially defer your fees by the deadline. Find fee deadlines and payment instructions here.

Financial aid includes merit-based scholarships and grants for students with financial need. You may also be eligible for educational travel grants. Learn more by contacting the Registrar’s Office at smc.registrar@utoronto.ca.

Admission scholarships

Several admission scholarships are awarded annually to outstanding incoming students. Students who select St. Michael’s College as their first choice will be automatically considered; recipients will be notified in their offer letters. Preference is given to those who select SMC first.

To be considered for certain scholarships—such as the Melissa Clubbe Memorial Admission Scholarship—students must be receiving provincial student loans.
